eatin' walkin' and readin'

Another one! I wanted to do another walk cycle but I wanted to challenge myself too, so there's a BILLION THINGS GOING ON.

whuh-oh!

It's been a while since I've animated anything substantial, so I've been easing myself back in with some walk/run cycles. And then I decided I wanted to link a few of 'em up!

fond memories of public transit

Still noodling around with digital art styles - kept this one kinda messy.  Anyway, I REALLY MISS riding public transit. I complained about it INCESSANTLY at times, but there's really nothing like a 40 minute train ride at the start of your day to help sort out your thoughts.

A READING ADVENTURE AWAITS!!!!

VISIT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY.

(It is probably less haunted than this one!)

Another manga studio 5 piece. Thought I'd let the background lineart stay intact for a change.

FINE DINING process 2/2

OKAY. Here's where things get sort of messy.  After the rough lineart is done (keeping the lineart for the characters and background separate) I started plopping down color in big patches using the color thumbnail as a guide.

Like picking a color palette, I feel this is a stage that mostly falls down to personal preference - I kept the brushwork loose and splotchy in places like the walls and floor, but got a bit more fussy with the characters. My major concern at this stage was keeping the characters and objects readable while also keeping the brushwork pretty vibrant and natural feeling.

FINE DINING process 1/2

AS FORETOLD BY A POST I MADE EARLIER, here's a look into the process for that drawing:

I started off with a rough sketch like so - at this point I really only had a hazy idea of what I wanted going on in the background.
There were going to be some walls, and some potted plants, sure, but where would they be? What would they look like? WHO KNOWS. (I didn't!)

FINE DINING

Since I started playing around with those brushes last week I decided I needed to work on something with an actual background - and here we are. Process post forthcoming (or at least when the feeling returns to my hand)

brooding balsa

Spent a good chunk of the day painting this, in Manga Studio 5, again.  I'm trying to force myself to learn from each of these - in this case, I thought it'd be fun to render a couple different surface types in the rain.

Process under the cut -

chin up, todd

Recently started trying my hand at painting in manga studio 5 using Ray Frenden's painterly brush set - it's been a while since I've felt so charged up and excited about creating stuff!

Not sure if I've posted any drawings of this little fella before. He isn't a clown by trade, but who can resist dressing up a goblin in ridiculous ruffles and baubles? NOT ME.
