my spirit animal

THE WILY COCKATRICE SPEAKS! It... it does not have much to say, it turns out.

SPACE GHOSTS ATTACK

Quick-ish color study piece for testing out some natural media brushes I downloaded.

Pick a Cat Draw a Girl

Entries for this thing: http://harveyjames.livejournal.com/164155.html which is turning out to have a whole helluva lot of super-keen stuff so far! All of these seem like they should be characters in some superhero comic, which probably accounts for at least a part of the appeal! :D

works in progress!

Some of these are just brainstorming sessions and others are just me noodling around with shading for no particular reason.
Whaaa oh lord am I turning into Louis Wain? I think that's what's going on here.

somewhat recent photoshop sketchdump

Okay: really, only some of these are sketches - sometimes I go overboard with rendering stuff in natural-brush styles. And they aren't that recent. Some of these have been sitting on my hard drive for months! But oh well.

Still need to add a background to this one. WHOOPS me and my forgetting to start drawings with all of that silly "context" in mind.

Every page of funny animals needs a sad cowboy to balance it out.

This last one was inspired by the lumpy demon guys in "Shuck". I am perhaps overly fond of drawing short, lumpy things.

MONSTER PARADE

I kinda wanna try making little clay figures of these guys. Painting for a friend's birthday card.

ye olde sketchdump

Some pages from a somewhat recent sketchbook that I managed to forget existed. I should probably fill that thing up, sometime. The pigs are for a potential website design, and the rest are just me noodling with colored pencils.

wip sketches and more paintchat

Just a random selection of current sketches and doodles. Cartoon animals, sulky teens and half of a guy that vaguely reminds me of Flint Paper.
Alien heads, inspired by my becoming nostalgic for Star Control 2.

There's more to this one that I'll post when it's finished.
Hey, it's a calculated effort to cram as much weird stuff as possible into a tiny space! I'll probably have to rearrange some of the clutter so I can fit their pet mudpuppy in there.
And now some more paintchat doodles.
Lin, from Perdido Street Station.
Annnd a surly dragon to cap it off.

paintchat color sketches

Two updates in the same month? What on earth is going on? Anyway: here's a set of doodles from a recent paintchat session. I don't know if I'm capable of drawing cartoon animals without ridiculously prominent teeth! They seem to go hand in hand.

sketchdump

A 100% accurate depiction of myself.
TREES: evidently I like drawing them. Might finish this up sometime, might not.
Unfinished drawing inspired by a weird round-robin interactive fiction game between some friends and I. (This scene: MERE MOMENTS from the player's untimely and hilarious death)
Oh, hey, whaddaya know? More trees! Mostly for the sake of working out color palettes.

pterostroll

Haven't finished any paintings in a while! Pretty happy with how this one turned out. My favorite part is the mass of rock/petrified tree on the left. It just sort of happened without a ton of planning!

ULTRAVIOLET THUNDER

I love the incredibly weird covers for the books in the Choose Your Own Adventures series. (The books themselves always made me feel weirdly inadequate or stupid, like I was destined to die a horrible death no matter what I did!) And a recent story arc in Achewood featured a text adventure game starring Kim Jung Il. So this happened. I'm not really sure there's an adequate way to explain it.
